Welcome to English Department :

The Department of English, established in 1960 is the oldest department of the college. It began functioning in the very year the college was started.
B A in English Language and Literature, (Since 1960) at SN is one of the earliest undergraduate English programmes in this part of the state.
M. A. in English Language and Literature started only in 2014.
The department's teachers have been imparting Communication English lessons and Literature to several generations (since 1960) of students who belonged to various undergraduate programmes in the college. The earlier General English is now known as Common Course in English.
The Faculty comprises of Five members. Two of them are Associate Professors and three are Assistant Professors. Besides these regular faculty members, the department has six well qualified guest faculty members.
Three of the faculty have Ph.D degrees, two have M.Phil, and one has B.Ed.
The Department Library has 2515 books and subscribes four journals.
The Department has a Research Forum which conducts invited lectures, debates and other acadrmic related activities every week. The Department, through the Jijesh Memorial Endowment, offers a cash prize to the Best Outgoing student every year.
Several of the past and present faculty members have been Chairmen and members of UG and PG BoS.
Retired HoD Dr N Sajan, was the PG, BoS chairman until recently. Dr Lata Ramakrishnan, Dr. Lasitha B.V. and Dr C P Satheesh were members of U.G and P.G. BoS.
Ms PC Sreeja and Dr PC Sabitha were also members of UG BoS of Kannur University.
Dr. C.P. Satheesh was the Chairman, P.G. Board of Studies in English before the tenure of Dr N Sajan.
Dr. Lasitha B.V. was member of Syndicate, Kannur University, during the period 2011-2015 and 2015-2016.
Dr. C.P. Satheesh had authored a textbook, _English in the Internet Era prescribed as a Core Text for the previous B.A. Core Course of III Semester students.
Dr. Lasitha B.V. has authored three Textbooks, Cadences, Green Voices and Resonances prescribed for the Common Course students of I, II and III Semesters in the previous curricula.
Dr. C.P. Satheesh has been awarded the honour of Best NCC Officer twice by Kannur University. He is also a recepient of Director General's, (NCC) prestigious Commendation Card.
Dr. C.P. Satheesh was awarded a Project Fellowship by Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi, (5 lakhs). Two members of the Department are Teaching Faculty of the IGNOU.
Teachers constantly keep themselves updated with the current literary trends through seminars, workshops and publications. They play an active part in designing and framing curricula
