SREE NARAYANA COLLEGE KANNUR

Sree Narayana College, Kannur is one of the biggest institutions of higher education in Kannur District. The College was founded in the name of His Holiness Sree Narayana Guru, the great saint and social reformer of our state, by the Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam. The founder manager, Late Sri. R. Sankar made pioneering efforts to start a group of institutions named after Sree Narayana Guru.
This college was formally inaugurated on the 6th of July 1960 by the then Chief Minister of Kerala, Late R. Sankar. From its status as a junior college it has now grown into a full fledged post-graduate college with affiliated research centres in its post graduate departments of Zoology , Chemistry & Commerce. This college, affiliated to Kannur University imparts instruction to nearly two thousand students in different branches of Arts, Science and Commerce at the under-graduate and post-graduate levels.

This college is situated on a serene twenty-acre campus, `Govardhan Giri' at Thottada about 6kms. south of Kannur town. `Govardan Giri was donated for the purpose by Late Haridas Govardhandas Khimji. The college has a Regional Development Council (R.D.C.) headed by a president to look after its immediate requirements. Successive R.D.Cs have done a great deal of work in the improvement of the various infrastructural facilities of the college. The names of some of the prominent R.D.C. members like Late Kayiath Damodaran and Late Dr. T.P. Balakrishnan deserve special mention.
Through the fifty years of its active existence, the college has been able to play a vital role in the educational, social and cultural development of the home district. The college has set a track record of outstanding performance to its credit both in curricular and extra curricular activities, thanks to the hard work and dedication shown by the students, staff and the patrons of the college.

Footed firmly on its glorious tradition, the college is now looking forward for higher accomplishments in the years ahead. In this endeavour we stand committed to the realization of the following objectives and goals:

• To attain the noble notion of equality based on human dignity and thus practice the ideal "Enlightenment through Education", of the great sage, seer and philosopher, Sree Narayana Guru, on, whose name the college is founded.
• To continuously involve in the process of removing the disparities based on race, religion and caste through greater participation of the minorities and the backward communities in the mainstream of formal education as propounded by Sree Narayana Guru.
• To act as the nucleus center for higher education in the district of Kannur and thus share the efforts of the State towards removing the social, economic and cultural backwardness of the home district.
• To remove the social inequalities among people and to uplift the economically and socially downtrodden, by providing them the facility of higher education.
• To transform the students into knowledgeable, competent, socially committed and honest citizens of the motherland by inculcating the spirit of scientific temper and analytical thinking which enable them to take up the challenges of life.
• To provide competitive and quality education and to inspire scholastic and aesthetic talents of the students for empowering them to seek gainful employment.
• To realize and honour human values, justice and universal brotherhood and thus provide value-based education for the mental advancement of the students.
• To provide a healthy and peaceful atmosphere for the maximum output in the fields of learning, teaching, research and extension.
