The Department of Economics, established in 1960, holds the distinction of being the oldest department at the college, commencing operations in the very year the college was founded. Our B.A. in Economics program is one of the earliest undergraduate programs in the Malabar region, setting a strong foundation for economic education. In 1978, we expanded our academic offerings with the introduction of the M.A. in Economics, further cementing our commitment to advanced economic studies and research.
Economics “is intellectually fascinating and challenging.” This is how James Tobin described this dynamic subject. The department of Economics has always strived to realize this ideal and has also endeavoured to make the discipline relevant to the needs of the hour. The department works hard to make teaching a learning process- interesting, interactive and comprehensible to the students. As one of the oldest post graduate departments of S.N College, the department has distinguished itself as one of the leading centres for Economics under Kannur University. With its enviable legacy of illustrious teachers and successful alumni, it has carved a niche for itself. Students joining the department are ensured the freedom to express themselves critically and are provided opportunities to hone their talents and their personality in ways that would be beneficial to the self and the society at large.
We are dedicated to advancing the understanding of economic principles and their real-world applications by providing a comprehensive education that empowers students to become analytical thinkers, innovative problem solvers, and socially responsible citizens
We envision transforming students into socially responsible individuals with a profound understanding of economics and its practical applications. By equipping them with the knowledge and skills to navigate and excel in a rapidly evolving global landscape, we aim to cultivate forward-thinking leaders capable of making impactful contributions to society. Our ultimate goal is to empower students to thrive in the dynamic world ahead, prepared for both personal and professional success.
