Kannur Sree Narayana College Secures NAAC A+ Grade

Kannur Sree Narayana College has been awarded the prestigious A+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), the statutory body under the University Grants Commission (UGC) responsible for assessing and accrediting higher educational institutions in India. The college has elevated its previous A grade status to achieve this remarkable recognition.
The NAAC team evaluated various parameters including academic excellence, infrastructure, availability of learning resources, green campus initiatives, modern library facilities, faculty expertise, staff support, student engagement, the activities of the PTA, alumni association, NSS, NCC, and the College Students’ Union. The outstanding performance across these domains contributed significantly to the institution securing the A+ grade.
Sree Narayana College, a milestone in the higher education sector of North Malabar, now proudly adds this golden feather to its cap. Notably, it was the first institution in North Malabar to receive an A grade, and it has consistently maintained its standards in previous NIRF rankings as well.
Currently, the college caters to the academic needs of around 2100 students, offering excellent academic facilities and high-quality learning environments. The institution has consistently secured university ranks in various disciplines under Kannur University, retained the Jimmy George Trophy for excellence in sports for 22 consecutive years, and achieved commendable positions in the university youth festivals—further testimony to its all-round excellence.
The college offers thirteen undergraduate programs, six postgraduate programs, four Ph.D. programs, over fifty courses under the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Study Centre, and distance education programs affiliated to Kannur University.
Modern seminar halls, a solar power system, the Thumburmuzhi waste management system, biogas plants, and various eco-friendly infrastructure facilities enhance the campus. The green campus, Miyawaki fruit forest, periodic Green, Energy, and Environment audits—initiatives in association with Kerala Biodiversity Board and Bhoomithra Sena Club—received special attention during the assessment.
Social outreach activities like the 'Helping Hands' initiative for deserving students, various scholarships, heritage conservation programs, four well-equipped computer labs, state-of-the-art departmental laboratories, and a student-friendly canteen run by the alumni association were also highly appreciated.
The NAAC peer team emphasized that meticulous attention to quality in all areas has laid the foundation for the college’s sustained success. The college's sincere efforts towards quality education and holistic development were commended by the visiting team.
Keeping in view the changing academic trends and employability of students, the college has introduced modern, job-oriented courses in various emerging fields. Collaborations with local industries through corporate social responsibility projects, MoUs with industrial establishments for skill-based training, and specialized support systems for students preparing for competitive examinations further enhanced the institution’s quality, as noted by the NAAC team.
The NAAC peer review was conducted online on June 6 and 7 by a team consisting of Professor Ponnade Venkit Rao, Professor Saher Ahmad Chat, and Dr. Nandakishore Thakare.
The college principal, Dr. K.P. Prasanth, stated that the assessment covered curriculum, academic standards, research activities, student support, management and governance systems, and social responsibility, all of which contributed to this proud achievement.
SN Trust Treasurer Dr. Jayadevan, Trust Research Coordinator Dr. Ravindran, and Executive Committee Member Sri Aryakkandy Santhosh conveyed their felicitations on this remarkable achievement.
The A+ accreditation was made possible by the collective efforts of IQAC Coordinator Dr. Jithesh K, the dedicated faculty, students, alumni, PTA, and office staff of the college.
